Citronella essential oil is derived from the common name of the plant Cymbopogon Nardus, from the distillation of the herb and has a fresh, herbal, woody, lemony aroma.
Anti-inflammatory, fights free radical damage, relieves arthralgias, myalgias, colds, flu.
Due to its content of citronella and geranium, it is mainly used as an insect repellent, alone or in combination with other essential oils but also against lice. Its most well-known property is the natural protection it provides from mosquitoes.
Lemonella Uses:
- As an insect repellent: In a ceramic essential oil burner, add 8 drops of citronella or alternatively 4 drops along with 4 drops of lavender or eucalyptus or lemongrass essential oil. Alternatively, you can dissolve these drops in Neem oil and vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel and after mixing well to add deionized water to a spray bottle, you can apply on the body and also spray on plants.
- To make insect repellent oil: Add 30-35 drops of citronella to 100ml of vegetable oil (almond oil etc.) or 15 drops of citronella along with 10 drops of lavender and 10 drops of geranium essential oil, apply on the body and gently massage.
- Insect repellent oil for children: Add 10-12 drops of citronella in 100ml of vegetable oil (almond oil, etc.), 10 drops of lavender and 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil and apply on the body.
- To make lice oil: Add 15 drops of citronella, 5 drops of geranium and 5 drops of lavender in 50ml base oil (almond oil, coconut, jojoba etc.) and apply a few drops on the hair roots.
- Natural insect repellent for dogs: you can protect your pet from ticks, gnats and fleas by adding citronella and neem oil to deionized water. Do not spray on the eyes and muzzle, on wounds or areas with skin problems.
Avoid during pregnancy, may cause irritation.
